Samos is the most east part of Greece and the European Union.

Belongs together with Ikaria and Fourni in the prefecture of Samos. Its area is 478 square kilometers and its population is about 33.000 inhabitants. Samos is famous for its sweet wine, it's sight seeings and it's figures provided in the Hellenic History such us the mathematician Pythagoras, the philosopher Epicurus and the astronomer Aristarchus. From neighbouring Turkey, Samos is separated by the Mykali straight which is just 1.300 m wide. In ancient times Samos considered the birthplace of the goddess Hera. The beauties of the island are remarkable. Samos has two mountains, mountain Kerkis (1434m) and mountain Karvounis (1095m). Both provide a green environment which makes both ideal for hiking, and beautiful beaches like Tsamadou Micali, Psili Ammos, Golden Sand, Lemonakia, Kerveli, Poseidonio. Its capital is the city of Samos. Ports on Samos: Vathi, Pythagorion, and Karlovasi Other points are the city of Karlovassi, Pythagorion and Kokkari (the last 2 are the biggest tourist spots on the island.) There are also many traditional villages like Vourliotes, Ampelos, Manolates where there are traditional tavernas and one can taste the local cuisine while enjoying the view of the Aegean Sea. Some of the sights of Samos:

• 1. Iraion Samos. Located three kms west of the Pythagorion and was dedicated to the goddess Hera. Temple of Hera was the largest in Greece, according to Herodotus.
• 2. Eupalinus tunnel. Located in Pythagorion and used as an aqueduct in antiquity.

A visitor of Samos may undertake activities such as horseback riding, hiking, biking, diving, visiting caves, climbing, because of the ideal morphology for such activities. Samos has also many monasteries worth a visit in as Vrontani, The Holy Cross, The Holy Virgin Mary, Prophet Elias, Agia Zoni, Zoodochos Pigi, The Holy Trinity. From Samos, there is connection by ferry to Piraeus and Kavala in northern Greece, flights to Athens and Thessaloniki as well as connection with the around islands of Icaria, Furni and Patmos. There is also connection by flying dolphin with the Dodecanese islands (Patmos, Kos, Leros, Kalymnos). There is also a daily connection with the port of Kusadasi in neighbouring Turkey so someone can visit ancient Ephesus located next. During July and August are organised many festivities and wine festivals. But also someone that will search for nightlife in Samos, will find several bars, clubs and cafes in Kokkari in the town of Samos, Pythagorion and Karlovasi that will give him a pleasant tone to his escape during the night.

There are many that someone can do or visit during his vacations on Samos island

He can make a combination to pay a short visit to the nearby islands of Ikaria, Fourni or Chios, he can visit the famous island of Patmos to be in the place that John wrote the Book of Revelation, or to travel to Kusadasi on the coasts of Turkey in order to visit the famous nearby ancient city of Efessos.

While staying in Samos, there are so many activities like cycling. In Kokkari there are organised cycling tours, as far as there are many magnificent walking path routes through a virgin forest which connect Kokkari village with nearby Villages of Vourliotes or Ampelos or Manolates (www.samosoutdoors.com).
